We thank you for wanting to know a little more about us and the mission our Lord has called us to participate in here.  We hope this information will help you get to know us better.

We are an imperfect group of God’s own gathered to hear the Word of God and the freedom we have from all guilt and condemnation through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are molded and shaped by the Holy Scriptures and worship according to the traditional liturgy of the Christian Church. By God’s grace, we will continue faithfully in His Word until that day when we make our great confession that Jesus Christ is Lord!  

Who we are

Since 1905, Augustana has been proclaiming the truth of God’s Word in South Hickory.

Augustana — We are named after the statement of faith the German rulers presented to Emperor Charles V in 1530, the Augsburg Confession or in Latin, the Confessio Augustana (Ps 119:46)

Evangelical — Focused on the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ and the life found in Him

Lutheran — Continuing the tradition of the Reformation movement associated with Martin Luther

Church — Gathered together by the Holy Spirit for witness, mercy, and life together

Augustana is a member congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS).  The LCMS is a mission-oriented, Bible-based, confessional Christian denomination headquartered in St. Louis, Mo., founded on the teachings of Martin Luther. Historically, the LCMS was organized in 1847 by immigrants from Saxony and Prussia in Germany who had fled the religious persecution by rulers there.  Today, the LCMS has more than 2.3 million baptized members in some 6,200 congregations and more than 9,000 pastors.  The church has relationships and active mission work in nearly 90 countries around the world.  In the last five years, the LCMS has awarded more than $35 million through more than 900 domestic and international grants for emergency response and disaster response. Today, the LCMS is in full doctrinal fellowship with 33 other confessional Lutheran church bodies worldwide.
